Study of Scattering and Polarization of Light in Biological Tissue
Accelerated JPEG Decompression on Graphics Processing Units
Janošík, Ondřej ; Polok, Lukáš (referee) ; Pečiva, Jan (advisor)
This thesis addresses the issue of JPEG decompression, design of algorithms for decompression on graphics cars and their implementation. In more details, it describes specific process of implementation, including possible alternatives and optimizations. It is described in order of JPEG decompression algorithm steps. The aim of this thesis is the reduction of time consumed by uplading textures into graphics unit’s memory using JPEG compressed textures and decompression od the side of graphics card. In addition to time savings, this access reduces processor load, which may be in some cases beneficial.
Energy evaluation of an administrative building
Stadtherr, Jan ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Adam, Pavel (advisor)
This master’s thesis deals with the energy assessment of an administrative building. The theoretical part is devoted to legislation for energy assessment – law, regulations and technical standards. The application of this legislation is provided in the calculation part as energy audit and energy performance certificate of the administrative building. The last part of this thesis is dedicated to application of computational softwares for analysing results of heat consumption in comparison with reality.
Hardware Acceleration of Algorithms for Approximate String Matching
Nosek, Ondřej ; Kořenek, Jan (referee) ; Martínek, Tomáš (advisor)
Methods for aproximate string matching of various sequences used in bioinformatics are crucial part of development in this branch. Tasks are of very large time complexity and therefore we want create a hardware platform for acceleration of these computations. Goal of this work is to design a generalized architecture based on FPGA technology, which can work with various types of sequences. Designed acceleration card will use especially dynamic algorithms like Needleman-Wunsch and Smith-Waterman.
Computational thinking development of pupils in the Early Years
Jarolímková, Lucie ; Černochová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Fialová, Irena (referee)
The master's thesis addresses the topic of developing computational thinking at the primary school. The theoretical part defines the fundamental concepts of computational thinking and its components, digital literacy. The theoretical part also includes an analysis of the curriculum for elementary school and its changes in the field of computer science focused on the primary school. The basic concepts of computational thinking are characterized, and the issues in the curriculum in the Czech Republic and abroad are outlined. The theoretical part includes an analysis of textbooks for teaching computational thinking at the primary school, mainly analyzing the textbook by Berki, J., and Drábková, J. (2020) Foundations of Informatics for the primary school, along with specific chapters for its practical verification. The practical part describes the preparation and implementation of a research survey at the primary school. The aim was to assess the level of computational thinking among students, conduct lessons using the informatics textbook, and determine the impact of teaching on the development of computational thinking. The seven-hour informatics instruction took place at a school in Prague with a group of twenty-two students in the fifth grade of elementary school. The students were given the same...
Cloud computing and its introduction in small and medium sized enterprises
Šimonfy, Adam
Simonfy, A. Cloud computing and its introduction in small and medium enterpris-es. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2015. This thesis is compiled on the Cloud computing and its introduction in the small and medium enterprises and evaluation of its connection to the up-coming tech-nologies and chosen factors connected to the operations management with the stress on costs. Cloud computing shows strong benefits for the business. The study of selected model company showed that it is justified for a company to con-sider the technology, however, it might not be applicable for all kinds of small and medium enterprises.
Portability of transformation of lower secondary ICT education in England into the Czech conditions
Strnad, Michal ; Černochová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Neumajer, Ondřej (referee)
TITLE: Portability of transformation of lower secondary ICT education in England into the Czech conditions AUTHOR: Bc. Michal Strnad DEPARTMENT: Department of Information Technology and Technical Education SUPERVISOR: Doc. RNDr. Miroslava Černochová, CSc. ABSTRACT: This thesis deals with teaching Computing subjects at secondary schools in England as a model for transformation of teaching ICT at schools in the Czech Republic. The thesis focuses on the portability of aspects of teaching Computing to the Czech environment and endeavours to identify the possible barriers to implementation processes. The aim of the thesis is to bring new stimuli for changes in the Czech ICT curriculum that are based on the experience of teaching ICT and Computing in the UK. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of the analysis and comparison of the Czech and British curricular documents and the study of academic and journalistic texts. The empirical part uses questionnaires focused on opinions of Czech and English experts on teaching ICT or Computing. It also uses interviews with English teachers of Computing and observations of Computing and ICT lessons at English secondary schools. Based on the results of both parts of the thesis, several recommendations for changes in the ICT study program in Framework Educational...

Assessing Usability of Raspberry Pi for Distributed Computing
Stefan, Petr ; Kruliš, Martin (advisor) ; Jančík, Pavel (referee)
The main objective of the presented work is to assess performance of Raspberry Pi micro- computer and its applicability as a work node of a computational cluster. The thesis conta- ins implementation of set of tests that evaluate the CPU performance as well as the throu- ghput of operation memory, persistent storage (SD card), and Ethernet network adapter. The results of comparison of empirical results obtained from Raspberry Pi and representa- tives of regular computers provided basis for recommendation, whether a construction of Raspberry Pi cluster is feasible. Furthermore, the results allowed us to make an estimation of economical and performance aspects of the solution. 1
